Frequently Asked Questions
What age groups and subjects do you specialise in?
I tutor children aged 7-16 years old. I provide expert, focused tuition for Key Stage 2 (KS2), Key Stage 3 (KS3), 11 Plus/Common Entrance preparation, and GCSE Mathematics and English.
What makes the Tutoristic approach different from other tutors?
I am not a massive, faceless agency. I build your child’s academic foundations from scratch using a focused, test-driven approach that blends structured exam preparation with a calm, motivating learning environment.
How do I know if my child is ready for 11 Plus tuition?
I typically recommend beginning foundational preparation during Year 4, followed by dedicated 11 Plus preparation in Year 5. This timeline allows us to build core conceptual strength and confidence without causing unnecessary academic stress.
Do you provide online or in-person tuition?
All sessions are delivered 100% online. This offers brilliant flexibility for modern families – even if you travel abroad, your child’s tuition can seamlessly continue. My online learning environment uses interactive digital tools to keep students fully engaged, focused, and participating actively.
What equipment or software does my child need for online tutoring?
To get the most out of the interactive digital classroom, your child will need a reliable internet connection, a laptop or desktop computer equipped with a working webcam and microphone, and a quiet, distraction-free study space. I provide all the necessary links and digital learning access points.
How do you prepare students for exam pressure?
I normalise testing. By regularly integrating real exam practice into our curriculum, my students become deeply familiar with exam formats and time constraints. This consistent exposure turns exam anxiety into quiet, focused confidence.
What is expected of parents during the tuition process?
Academic success is a true partnership. We work closely as a team: tutor, parent, and tutee. I expect parents to provide a quiet study space at home and ensure that independent weekly homework assignments are completed fully and on time.
What happens if my child has to miss a scheduled session?
Fees are charged by the term and missed sessions are generally non-refundable, unless there are extenuating circumstances and you have given 24 hours’ notice. I will book another session to cover the session missed. However, as our sessions are completely online, if you are travelling or away from home, your child can easily log in from anywhere so they never lose their learning momentum!
How and how often is feedback given on my child's progress?
You will always be kept in the loop. I provide a brief 5-10 minute verbal update alongside the lesson plan after each session. Additionally, your child will complete regular milestone assessments. I provide transparent weekly updates so you always know exactly how they are progressing toward their target grades, alongside a detailed written report once per year during the spring term.
Can you help if my child is struggling with complex concepts?
Absolutely! I specialise in breaking down concepts into clear, manageable steps. This keeps students engaged, motivated, and moving forward, even when the material gets challenging.
Do you offer a free trial session?
While I do not offer traditional one-off trial lessons, I provide a complimentary 30-minute ‘Strategy Session’ for parents and students. This gives us the perfect opportunity to meet, discuss your child’s academic goals, ensure we are an excellent fit, and map out a clear path to success before making any commitments.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
Sessions generally last for one hour. However, additional time or extra sessions can be requested if needed. For our 11 Plus tutees, double sessions (2 hours) are automatically scheduled during the summer term leading right up to the exams to ensure they are fully prepared.
How is payment made for the sessions?
Sessions are charged by the term. Invoices are emailed to you a month before the new term starts and are payable one week in advance. Detailed termly rates are provided during our initial 30-minute Strategy Session based on your child’s specific academic pathway.
Do you accept student referrals?
Yes, I do. A significant portion of our close-knit student community joins us via word-ofmouth recommendations from current clients and family members. Registered referrals are given priority placement on our waiting list when spaces open up – simply mention it when booking your Strategy Session.
Are you DBS checked and certified?
Yes, absolutely. I hold a current, enhanced DBS check and am more than happy to show you a copy upon request. For your complete peace of mind, I have also completed the ‘Keeping Children Safe Online’ Certificate of Achievement with the NSPCC.
